About Pat Walsh

Dr. Pat Walsh is a lecturer on the Civil Engineering programme at the University of Limerick. He has expertise is in the areas of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and aspects of material science. Within the CIVIL @ UL team, his focus is on developing industry relevant modules leading to an energy theme within the Civil Engineering programme. He lectures on the following modules: • Wind, Ocean & Hydro Energy • Energy Efficient Buildings • Modelling and Analysis of Fluid Systems • Design & Optimisation of Energy Systems Having begun his career with a degree in mechanical engineering, Pat was awarded a PhD for research studies undertaken at the Stokes Institute between 2002 & 2006. Following this, he begun to develop his own research interests as both Research Fellow and Senior Research fellow at the Stokes Institute in UL. His current research interests range from the development of novel materials and technologies for diurnal and seasonal storage of thermal energy to developing theoretical models describing heat and mass transfer processes in two-phase flows. To date, Pat has disseminated his research findings through 19 ISI cited journal articles, a chapter in the ‘Microfluidics and Nanofluidics Handbook’, 28 peer-reviewed articles in international conference proceedings, as well as 2 patents on novel low-profile electronics cooling technologies.
