About Patricia Howard

I am an artist, photographer and educator. A graduate of the University of Delaware (BFA) and Penn State University (MFA), I have exhibited my work nationally (Juniata College Museum of Art, Redline Art Center, Photoworks at Glen Echo Park) and internationally (Rathfarnum Castle, Ireland). I have taught public school residencies in central Pennsylvania, was an adjunct professor at Penn State University as well as Penn College for Technology; and an Assistant Professor of Art at Juniata College. I currently teach photography through the Smithsonian Associates, where I specialize in History of Photography and darkroom-based photography. I am also an Associate Artist at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria and exhibit there. I recently completed a residency on fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center and was previously in residence at the Master Photography Retreat in France; Cowhouse Studios in Ireland and the Burren College of Art, also in Ireland. I work collaboratively and creatively with colleagues, students and interns. From 1980-90 I worked in public media at KBDI in Denver where I developed a strong commitment to community service. Specialties in education: digital photography, darkroom photography, history of photography, design and color, drawing, integration of photography with other curriculum and community involvement. My own photography focuses on conceptual and documentary approaches and incorporates a strong element of storytelling.
