About Patrick Blackburn

Patrick Blackburn is a composer, artist, theorist, and futurist who has been at the forefront of incorporating technology with music and the visual arts. His career has consisted of innovative approaches which includes: working with one of the first production Moog synthesizers manufactured, pioneer and technician of holography and also light responsive pigments and paintings in the ‘70s which led to some of the first sound and light installations. He has developed generative processes for both music and visual art. Blackburn has a unique way of looking at everyday tools and re-utilising them. He has been working heavily in the design and production of audio/visual gallery installations and a series of installation soundtracks; most in extremely limited editions (making them instant collectors items). for a number of years. His "installations" are sound sculptures created for specific environments; usually instrumental, they are not compositions in the traditional sense, with a beginning, middle, and end, but are open-ended constructions designed to go on indefinitely without looping or intentionally repeating the material. In his recent work he has developed a free standing, touch-controlled modular system to create his unique sonic territories. He has also simultaneously written a code for Adobe Photoshop that creates new abstracts of unusual, quiet beauty. Blackburn is also featured in the soon to be released movie, ʻModular: The Documentaryʼ including such electronic music pioneers as Morton Subotnick, Richard Lainhart, and Joel Chadabe. In addition, Blackburn is well known for his expertise in UXD, Design Thinking and Information Architecture. He is a much requested consultant on the state of user experience on the Internet as well as cutting edge developments of consumer interfaces for small, medium businesses and Fortune 500 Companies. He is a much in demand speaker on numerous topics from the arts to the future of computers and the Internet.
