Background
About Patrick Bordnick
Over the past 15 years, I have successfully developed and tested virtual reality equipment and software programs for assessing drug and alcohol craving. A current study in my lab is exploring the use of virtual reality for cue extinction in heroin users. My research background is rooted in interdisciplinary collaborations, which draws upon public health, psychology, social work, pharmacology and medicine. Since 1997, I have been funded as a PI or Co-investigator on university and federal grants for heroin, obesity, nicotine, alcohol, HIV/STD, mental health, and cannabis. I am a Co-researcher on many other NIH funded projects and have numerous state and other funded projects. Recently, The University of Houston Drug Abuse Research Development Program II was successfully renewed for funding for an additional five years. The funding provides the infrastructure to support research studies; faculty and student mentoring; annual student research conferences; training workshops on publishing, peer-review, grant submission and post-award management.
