About Patrick Carr

I have 6 years experience conducting computational chemistry studies requiring analysis of thousands of data files and modelling the data for extraction of physicochemical properties to compliment the experimental results. My research, technical writing, and communication skills led to three years of provincial funding totaling nine publications, and 13 conference contributions. Following graduate school I spent the Fall 2019 term teaching spectroscopy and thermochemistry in Beijing, China on behalf of the University of Waterloo (UW). I am currently working toward certification in Python programming and data science. I have 5 years experience in developing scientific instrumentation, specifically, for performing laser spectroscopy on molecular ions filtered by mass spectrometry. For this project, I collaborated with multi-disciplined team which included senior researchers and engineers to develop two instruments and led to publication in the Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry. This project required working with many highly technical components such as: • Assembly of vacuum chambers operating at 10-8 Torr • Installation and operation of a Continuum Powerlite 9010 Nd:YAG coupled to a Horizon OPO • Tuning and optimizing of a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer • Writing custom scripts for automation of laser control, data acquisition, and data analysis • Collaborating with a multi-disciplined team to develop new machined and electrical components
