Greater use of wood in construction is inevitable – because it’s smart. Someday, we will look back to this time in human progress as the period in which plant-based construction materials (specifically wood) for our homes, workplaces and schools became the healthy and eco-friendly standard. Today, we’re witness to mass timber structures 18 storeys and beyond made predominantly of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) or other mass timber solid wood panels (NLT, DLT, MPP), glulam columns and beams, and other engineered wood products. Prefabricating such buildings off-site is also smart because it drives down costs. Not only are these buildings beautifully crafted, well made, healthy and safe; we know they’re faster to erect and cost competitive. Harder to quantify are the intangible benefits of building with wood - buildings in which people feel a connection naturally.
