About Patrick Coakley

I caught the coding bug! I always thought I wanted to work in sales/marketing for one of the leading alcohol drinks companies, engaging with people and working on marketing campaigns. It seemed like I was on the right path, graduating with a MSc in Marketing from Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business. I experienced a few roles in sales, but there was something missing, I yearned for more inventiveness, and more tangible skills. Covid-19 hit and I had more time on my hands. I completed a 5 day coding challenge, which resulted in a very basic HTML & CSS recipe web page. It was some buzz, seeing my code produce a beautiful looking web page. This excitement led me to Code Institutes Full-Stack Software Development Course. Four intense months later, I became competent in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, and also comfortable with relational and non-relational databases. I contributed to open source projects and hackathons. I experienced building websites using flask and Django web frameworks. I then used my skills to do freelance web development work which led me to exploring AWS (Amazon Web Services) for its cloud computing software. This gave me the experience of using AWS Elastic Beanstalk which incorporates the EC2 sever, RDS database, load balancer and S3 buckets. I am currently working as Cyara which has enhanced my skills in software development. My role gives me the opportunity to experience lots of different aspects of development like developing new RESTful API with Python 3.x and Flask and developing and maintaining our custom Linux distro.
