Background
About Patrick Enaholo
I currently wear several hats. I am a researcher, part-time entrepreneur, web developer or teacher depending on the time of the day and the season of the year. One of my research interests include the political and cultural significance of open data among stakeholders and, more specifically, data intermediaries. I've worked as a data and technology consultant for a few international organisations including Open Contracting Partnership (OCP), Hivos and Transparency International. With OCP, I helped to advocate for the adoption of open contracting in Nigeria and was heavily in the development of one of the first open contracting implementations in Africa. From time to time, I do stuff with the Open Data Research Centre, a research unit focusing on the use and impact of data in developing contexts. Second, I'm interested in new media cultures and web technologies. I'm hugely keen on trying to understand the meaning and application of new media tech as a shaper of society. On this, I've worked and collaborated with people involved in those industries (web designers/developers, filmmakers, animators, video game creators) to see how culture can be/is being transformed through digital technologies. Related to this is my work with the Centenary Project, a Google Arts and Culture partner. We've done projects covering key cultural sectors in Nigeria – from film to food to fashion! At other times, I give priority to my passion for web design and development. My entrepreneurial skills have led me to help set up small internet companies, web departments in larger ones or just explore and execute on my own. In this area, my mind is restless. I'm always on the prowl for new ways to do new things through the web. Finally, I am a teacher. In fact, I find myself teaching almost all the time, even when I'm far from a classroom. Whenever possible, I try to help those who work with me to improve their skills. As I'm something of a perfectionist, I often like to get people around me to do things as well as they can.
