About Patrick Gatt

Patrick is an advocate forming part of a crypto-focused regulatory consultancy firm. He practises mostly in the corporate, financial services, fintech, capital markets and iGaming sectors, providing bespoke advice and solutions to clients wishing to carry on regulated business both in Malta and abroad. In his experience, he has handled a number of investment services, funds, insurance brokers, crypto assets service providers and iGaming licences, as well as a number of whitepaper registrations. He has also carried out regulatory compliance work within the MiFID, VFA and the funds regimes and held directorship positions and other key functionary positions within the iGaming industry. Patrick was also involved in various corporate matters ranging from mergers and acquisitions to redomicilations and liquidations. He has also advised clients on blockchain-based and cryptocurrency-related projects such as ICOs, STOs, cryptocurrency exchange licences and blockchain-based gambling projects. In addition, he has assisted clients on various other matters, including employment issues, taxation and contract drafting. Before joining the legal profession, Patrick practised in the accounting sector for several years, where amongst others he headed the accounts department of a leading global brokerage firm. While practising in the financial field, Patrick was responsible for client billing and credit control, payroll, bookkeeping, finalisation of management accounts and liaison with auditors internationally. Patrick graduated in B.Sc. Business and Computing from the University of Malta in 2010 and a year later he was conferred a B.Com. Management with Honours from the same University. Patrick then read law at the University of Malta and was conferred a Doctor of Laws in 2018. He was called to the Maltese bar in 2019. In the same year, he was conferred a Master of Arts in Financial Services by the University of Malta. In 2020 he successfully completed the Professional Award in Taxation offered by the MIT and the Foundation Certificate in Trusts Law and Management offered by the IFSP. Patrick is currently furthering his studies by following the Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) course with the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).
