About Patrick Hesp
Patrick Hesp completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees at Massey University in New Zealand, and his PhD in coastal geomorphology at the University of Sydney in 1982. He has held academic positions in NSW, Western Australia, Singapore, USA, and NZ, held visiting professorships and fellowships in Israel, Holland, China, Brazil, Italy, Malaysia, Thailand, and France, and has worked on beaches and coastal and desert dunes all over the world. He is one of the world expert’s on coastal dune geomorphology, dynamics and management, and has published over 200 articles in his career to date. He has received multiple awards including the R.J. Russell award from the AAG, a LSU Distinguished Faculty Award, two ‘Rainmaker’ awards from Louisiana State University (top 100 research faculty or staff), a Fulbright Fellowship, a ‘Secretary’s partners in Conservation award’ from the Obama Administration, is Emeritus Professor of the Department of Geography and Anthropology at LSU, and held the R.J. Russell Professorship at LSU from 2007 to 2013.
