About Patrick Hughes

I am a builder. From my youth to the unique building you see in the front piece, it is a passion for me to build. For over 47 years I have applied this passion. I began as an apprentice wood worker in an architectural wood mill. There I learned how to saw up old reclaimed beams of first growth fir and redwood, then taking the planks and fashioning them into doors, windows and other architectural features to grace someone’s home. I eventually moved into the field and rose up in responsibility to manage the entire project. From excavation to completion working with clients, architects and designers. Ultimately overseeing projects as diverse as the ones noted in my portfolio below. This is why as an estimator, I still enjoy the day to day of seeing the vision come together because my hands have done such work. As an avid environmentalist it was natural I would be drawn to sustainable building, given I had started with repurposing old building frames into new products. Building homes that need little energy to operate is an imperative as global warming changes what we expect from our buildings. In my private life I have been involved in how one goes about convincing a conservative industry (Builders and Developers) to change the way they do business. The introduction of sustainable building techniques and supplies must be weighed as to how much of a challenge it is to the way the industry has done business before. This to make sure they are not just expensive alternatives, but become the norm as we move into Net Zero energy construction to lessen our impact on the planet.
