About Patrick J. Keating

I have a general civil litigation and regulatory practice, with a specialization in Commercial and Transportation Litigation, including Trucking, Aviation, Aerospace, Maritime, and Cargo Litigation. Many of my cases involve multiple parties and complex mechanical issues and electronic technologies. I also try product liability and employment cases, and CME Arbitrations. I have argued appeals in the Illinois Supreme and Appellate courts, and in four U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals (2nd, 3rd, 7th and 9th). I often serve as local counsel for large law firms and for companies which are sued in Chicago; often as counsel for foreign manufacturers and airlines. I also teach Advanced Torts as an adjunct professor, covering product liability, misrepresentation, defamation, privacy, and First Amendment. I am keenly interested in what I expect will be the rapid development of the common law in the face of our New Information Age, with its emphasis on AI and social media. I also handle constitutional cases, class action and the prosecution of complex business disputes, sometimes on a contingency fee basis. I have been "AV" Rated by Martindale-Hubbell since and was selected three times as an Illinois "SuperLawyer" by the Editors of Law & Politics magazine. Admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Illinois and all lower courts, the US District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois (including its Trial Bar) the Southern District of Illinois, and the Northern District of Indiana, and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Second, Third, Seventh and Ninth Circuits. In the education field, I have for eighteen years volunteered my service on school boards for the Archdiocese of Chicago, most recently at Infant Jesus of Prague School in Flossmoor, Illinois. I was president of that Board in 2010 when it was awarded the "Outstanding Board" award by the National Catholic Education Association.
