About Patrick Kilfoyle

I work on a customer facing, global team of senior performance specialists at HPE. We do system and application level performance analysis and tuning on large NUMA SMP servers in HP-UX and Linux environments. I work on custom performance tools development in C, C++, JS D3, python, PHP, various shells, etc, to help identify and visualize performance pathologies in complex system and clustered environments. I co-developed and deliver a 1 week internals-level class on Linux performance, troubleshooting tools and methodologies. The class has been taught 17 time word-wide and attended by almost every performance specialist at HPE. Recent work involves extending process and system focused tools to the cluster level. Recent performance investigations include Oracle, SQL (on Linux), and SAP HANA DB workloads using Linux Containers (Docker), HPE Application Tuner Express (ATX), and Virtualization technologies such as KVM, ESXi/vSphere, Hyper-V, and Xen. My areas of expertise include kernel task scheduling, NUMA architecture and scalability, synchronization mechanisms (locking), networking applications and protocols.
