Background
About Patrick Lang
I am a dedicated and driven professional of the legal field with over ten years of experience in both criminal investigations and the legal technology industry. In 2007, I began my legal career in public service working for the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ). Although the mandate of the division is to pursue justice against illegal acts committed under the Sherman Antitrust Act and Clayton act, the investigations on which I worked were multifaceted and wide-ranging. Under the direction of dedicated prosecutors and federal agents of both the FBI and IRS, I participated in criminal trials ranging from false statements to a Grand Jury in connection with a qui tam suit, bid rigging involving federal contractors working in a designated war zone such as Iraq, to the successful extradition and conviction of a British executive who obstructed justice in an international price fixing cartel scheme. The most recent investigation on which I worked, an investigation into the municipal bonds market covering various jurisdictions and multiple financial institutions, presented the Division with many challenges. The most notable challenge was how to successfully collect, process and review the vast amounts of electronically stored information (ESI) received. With the help of programmers and software developers, our team devised and deployed a new document-review platform that aided in the Division obtaining guilty pleas from the individuals involved in the scheme and vast fines levied against the financial institutions. In 2010, I took the skills developed regarding electronic discovery during my tenure at the USDOJ and began my career at Cleary Gottlieb Steen and Hamilton as a Litigation Technology Analyst. I currently serve as a Litigation Technology Specialist providing expert advice to both litigators and corporate associates on best practices concerning ESI and the entire Electronic Discovery Reference Model life-cycle.
