About Patrick Martineau
At the Application Laboratory of JAMSTEC, I carry out multidisciplinary research at the boundary of climate dynamics and the study of socioeconomic impacts. More specifically, I am leading the development of a machine-learning system to predict malaria outbreaks in South Africa based on information about coupled modes of atmosphere-ocean variability. This novel approach allows to predict Malaria outbreaks two to three seasons ahead, providing valuable information for the planning of interventions against malaria. In addition to applied research, I also tackle some more fundamental questions on the dynamical processes governing atmospheric variability from the subseasonal to decadal time scales, with a focus on weather events associated with weather extremes.
