About Patrick McKelvey

My career has to date has been about analyzing data to answer questions and tell stories. This started in economics, where I was focused on real-time economic monitoring and medium-term forecasting. It continued as I became a Data Scientist and expanded my toolkit for extracting value from data. I’m now pivoting to AI, where I want to apply my analytical skillset to understand how this technology is developing and how it will affect our economy and society. I want to work towards a world where we can harness and distribute AI’s benefits while properly mitigating AI’s risks. Over the years, I've guided teams through complex projects, from adapting machine learning methods for economic forecasting to modernizing data collection, storage and analysis infrastructure for the Bank of Canada’s Business Outlook Survey. My experience spans multiple domains, and I love to communicate complex concepts in understandable terms to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences. I think my key core skill is an ability to learn new things quickly. I'm a dedicated lifelong learner, and It's key for me that any role I take on gives me opportunities to learn and grow. I am always open to connecting with professionals and organizations interested in making a positive impact on the world.
