I currently work at North Shore Steel, a mid-sized steel service center that provides steel distribution as well as some fabrication services such as cutting and rolling. I provide accounting and financial analysis services for NSS and it’s three smaller sister companies. Each month I complete month end close activities for all four companies, ranging from inventory reconciliation to payroll entry to allocations. I also analyze accounts for accuracy and report to the controller any issues that may arise. In addition to closing activities, I also have several other projects. I created, maintain, and analyze several reports to help the companies be apprised of issues involving sales and payroll and have worked with the Chief Operating Officer to identify leading indicators to better prepare the company for the future. At Landry's I was responsible for maintaining balance sheet and income statement accounts for nine restaurants across five distinct concepts. Each month, I performed a review of all income statement accounts and reconcile differences between the store's records and those at corporate, along with preparing adjusting journal entries and accruing for expenses not yet received. I also researched and reconciled balance sheet accounts and posted journal entries for any adjustments needed. In addition, I provided daily accounting support to my stores including verifying sales data and petty cash and advising on any issues that may arise. I started as the accountant and Pacific Star and worked my way up to Accounting and Logistics Lead, where I oversaw a team of seven employees in accounting, logistics, purchasing, and warehousing. As this is a very small company, I have been given the opportunity to wear many hats. I have performed all major accounting functions including full-charge bookkeeping, account reconciliations, period-end closing, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting. I worked diligently with vendors to make sure that we are not overcharged in our purchases, in order to keep costs low. On a daily basis reconciled all bank and credit card accounts. I scheduled bill payments and communicated with customers to ensure prompt payment. It is also my responsibility to establish and maintain proper internal controls and implement policy and procedures.
