Background
About Patrick Moran
Originally from Wigan, UK I spent years working for the largest retailer in Europe, climbing my way up the ladder enjoying roles in all aspects of the IT lifecycle. One of my most challenging projects was when this company purchased their closest rival (Argos) for 2.2 billion pounds. I was engaged as an IT Business Analyst on a 12-month IT programme to merge the IT systems together and ultimately cut the workforce in half. As this was not a popular role I was met with hostility and resistance. All the barriers encountered taught me how to handle difficult situations and big company politics as nobody wanted to be made redundant. After 6 years I was headhunted to become an IT consultant for the National Health Service (one of the largest organisations in the world). The actual IT programme was to implement a new nationwide IT system across all hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and other medical facilities, costing 6.4 billions pounds. However, prior to my involvement, the whole thing had gone badly off track and had attracted negative press. The entire programme was off budget with missed deadlines and had become a political football in Parliament. Queue Tony Blair who could do no wrong at that particular time of his career - He took personal responsibility. The old team were sacked and new blood was head-hunted to fix and deliver. I was lucky enough to be hired as part of the 'fix' team and was heavily involved in rectifying the North-West of England which included all hospitals and doctors’ surgeries between Liverpool, Manchester and Preston. With weekly deadlines and regular reporting, the pressure was high. The budgets involved were in the millions every week and required liaison with hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and everyone in between. I was lucky enough to be working within an incredible high-achieving team with the same drive, focus, attention to detail and common delivery goal. We all pushed hard in the same direction and were able to get it all back on track, rolling out exactly as planned on time. During this period I was privileged to work alongside the most driven and talented people in the country with a zero tolerance for error and weekly reviews - it was deliver or you are fired on a weekly basis and my performance was taken to another level. Following this I travelled the world and eventually decided to move to Christchurch where in 2009 I started my own IT company (First Aid for Computers Limited t/a Computer Clinic), from scratch with no customers or staff. I now have a fantastic team and between us there is nothing we cannot do.
