Background
About Patrick Murray
Patrick Murray is the founding director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. He has over 20 years' experience conducting media polling and custom-designed research projects and is a frequent media commentator on politics and public opinion. Under Murray's leadership, the Monmouth University Poll earned an A+ rating from FiveThirtyEight.com, one of only five polling organizations out of 373 nationally to receive this top grade. In 2013, Mr. Murray was the only pollster to predict the winning margins in both New Jersey’s special US Senate election and the gubernatorial race, leading the Asbury Park Press to call his polls “freakishly accurate.” PolitickerNJ.com named Mr. Murray Pollster of the Year in 2010 and one of six Winners of the Year in New Jersey Politics in 2013. He frequently appears as a commentator on national and regional TV and radio, including appearances on various MSNBC and Fox News programs, as well as CNN’s The Situation Room and ABC’s Good Morning America. During federal election years, he also serves as a national exit poll analyst for the NBC News Decision Desk. His experience includes numerous needs assessments for state agencies and regional organizations, and community evaluations for local municipalities. He has directed consumer assessments of public services, business studies, and regional service evaluations. Other studies include image research for transit providers, academic institutions and non-profit organizations, along with magazine reader surveys and public television viewer segmentation studies. Specialties: strategic planning/communication research; designing and implementing large and small-scale survey projects; telephone, internet, mail, and in-person survey design; quantitative data analysis; and qualitative research techniques such as focus group facilitation and cognitive interviewing.
