About Patrick Peters
Music is not so much a language as it is a form of expression, whether it be personal or societal in nature. When performing, each student weaves their own historicities into the music they produce. As such, music is one of the few experiences in which every student has a voice immediately. The teaching and learning of music cultivates an environment in which historicities can intertwine and interact with one another, resulting in both teachers and students leaving the classroom having gained more insight into the community around them. Students engage with music in many facets of their lives, most of which are outside of school walls. As a teacher, I seek to inspire, mentor, and guide students to bring their musical ideas into the classroom environment, and challenge them to reconnect their classroom experiences back out into their communities once again.
