About Patrick Preston

I supervise a team of healthcare attorneys in the University of Washington (UW) Division of the Washington State Attorney General's Office. The UW Division provides comprehensive legal services to support a preeminent public university.Our healthcare team advises senior hospital administrators, clinical educators, and medical practitioners within UW Medicine's multi-entity healthcare system, which includes a world-class teaching and research medical center and a Level I trauma hospital. We also advise UW’s health sciences administration and health sciences schools. My diverse practice includes providing legal advice for business transactions, clinical care issues, clinical training agreements, regulatory compliance, risk management, and supply chain contracts, as well as supervising external litigation counsel.In private practice, I represented individuals and companies for compliance matters, criminal defense, and complex civil litigation. I have extensive courtroom experience as a former King County deputy prosecutor and served as a law clerk in the Western District of Washington. Prior to law school, I served as a legislative staff assistant in the U.S. Senate. I am a longtime volunteer at the Federal Civil Rights Clinic in Seattle.
