My name is Patrick Kaufmann. I am a ninth grader in DC, and I started the Valentines by Kids project three years ago to spread happiness. I collect Valentine's Day cards from local schools and deliver the cards to charities. Together, last year, we prepared and sent more than beautiful, hand-drawn cards to hospitals, hospices, nursing homes and Food & Friends’ clients so they feel special and remembered for Valentines Day. This originally started because I was introduced to DC-based Food & Friends which delivers meals to seriously ill adults and children living in the region along with their families and caregivers. I made cookies and helped package food for delivery. I realized that a little kindness makes people feel better and that people who are sick and alone should know that kids care about them. I am hoping more kids will join me through schools, youth groups, and sports teams in this fun and inspiring activity.
