RFK This quote summarizes my approach to my leadership. It is critical to envision new ideas, to "dream things that never were and to ask: why not," but to be successful, you must be able to transform those ideas beyond mere policy documents and flow charts. To make ideas work, you must be able to prioritize, resource, apply, evaluate and adjust, as you put those ideas into practice. The focus on implementation is of equal importance to visioning, and both need to be done well. In short, you must strive to excel not only at the strategic, but also at the tactical and the practical levels of leadership. Implementation is driven by communication that is clear, concise and non-circumspect, and by the ability to make great decisions. Great decisions are inclusive, with inclusiveness governed by structured collaboration. They are made close to the action with a complete understanding of options, constraints, and needs. Great decisions address the root cause of issues, not just the symptoms and are made by someone clearly accountable. Great decisions are holistic, and balance long-term and short-term value. Finally, great decisions are timely and recognize the need to move forward even if every piece of data is not available.
