About Patrick Scott

From vol 51.1, Studies in Scottish Literature will be edited by Tony Jarrells and published by Edinburgh University Press; in addition to wrapping up my own remaining work with the journal, I have a number of research projects, chiefly on the manuscripts and publishing history of Robert Burns. Recent books include a co-edited edition of poetry by Helen Craik (1750-1825), documentary biographies of Robert Burns and Robert Louis Stevenson, a coauthored study and census of Burns's Kilmarnock edition, and a coedited selection of essays on Burns by my late colleague G. Ross Roy. Ongoing projects include an edition of George Douglas Brown's shorter writings, work on James Hogg's Memoir of Burns, and several other Burns-related articles or reprints. In connection with the Burns projects, I am currently an honorary research fellow in Scottish literature at the University of Glasgow, and in April 2015 I was elected an honorary fellow of the Association for Scottish Literary Studies. I do occasional speaking engagements to academic or community groups, and I continue informal consultancy work with individual book collectors, dealers, and libraries concerning rare books and rare book teaching programs. This work draws on well over fifty years experience as a university teacher and literary scholar, and fifteen years experience (1996-2011) as director of the library's rare books & special collections.
