About Patrick Therien

As an organizational leader, engineer and entrepreneur with a drive to create useful products that delight customers, I both invent new things and empower individuals to do their best work. I hope to continue to produce novel, innovative technologies and manage large team organizations that yield the same. Currently, my work involves building the foundation of a mixed reality universe, the Metaverse at Meta. With about 25 years of experience in science, engineering, product development, and research, I manage a hardware engineering group of multidisciplinary individuals who strive to facilitate a fast hand-off from research to product creation of AR glasses and systems. To bring such an undertaking to fruition, it takes skilled professionals aligned toward a common goal with tools and processes in place to free them to come up with creative solutions to confounding problems. I believe the best way to manage individuals is through clearly stated expectations, removing roadblocks and practical data driven decision making. As a leader, I offer vision, organization, process excellency, and practical domain expertise in high-volume product development. I’m excited to be on the cutting edge of the Metaverse, which, in my opinion, is the future of human computer interface, commerce, entertainment, and work. In addition to my work at Meta, I’m also the founder of a medical device company, CWLogics. This allows me to help people in a unique way. CW Logics currently offers tools for knee replacement orthopedic surgery. As a prolific inventor holding 40+ patents, I take special pride in Product Premonition from my Microsoft Research days. My group designed and built the world’s most sophisticated mosquito trap, with the goal to detect, capture, and analyze mosquitos to alert for human and animal disease infections nearby. My work with Microsoft XBOX to create the Xbox Kinect and on 8 new platforms for consumer inkjet printers are also high on the list of things I’m proud to have contributed to.
