About Patrick Waechter

I am a writer, editor, and experiential producer with two-plus decades of journalistic experience and a knack for immersive storytelling. Some of my particular talents include research-based historical reconstruction, guest experience, world building, interactive narratives, creative project management, and the translation of technical and non-technical details between specialists and stakeholders. The bulk of my professional writing experience has been in publishing. I wrote my first column for the Asheville Citizen-Times in 1996 and ever since, I have contributed on a freelance basis to a host of newspapers, magazines, and digital outlets. In 2009, I co-founded travel media company A Rare World, and served as managing editor of the publication, overseeing all creative and technical aspects for the production of 100 printed issues. Over the course of 11 years, I reviewed over 700 hotels in 77 countries and gained significant expertise in global hospitality at the highest level. Most recently, I graduated with an MA from USC, having returned to school to study immersive storytelling and narrative design. While there, I co-produced a 360-video VR documentary short in partnership with post-prison nonprofit Words Uncaged and contributed narrative and character design work to an NEH-funded, historically-rich mobile AR project in partnership with LA Metro, The Huntington Library, and The Chinese Historical Society of Southern California. I'm presently seeking opportunities to contribute my storytelling and creative management skills toward projects that inspiring learning, community, and joy.
