Background
About Patrick Zachar
Born and raised in Southern Alberta, I moved to Saskatoon to begin post-secondary education. My love of science carried me through a Biochemistry Honours degree, and then on to Pharmacy where I found my future career. I also found my drive not just to be a pharmacist, but a leader in the profession through my involvement in student politics (Vice President of the SPNSS (Saskatchewan Pharmacy & Nutrition Students Society) in 2nd year, President in 3rd year and then Grad Chair, and Past President in my final year). I journeyed out to Welland, ON, where I took my first Pharmacy Manager position for Rexall in a clinic store filling 1200 prescriptions a week. 2 years later, we were filling 1800 scripts a week and just relocated the business to a new sq. ft. store. Upon moving back to Alberta I found myself in Olds, AB, for 4 months, where I managed a Rexall that had been struggling with inconsistent staffing that needed to be put on track for success. I then moved to a brand new, Drive-Thru Rexall in Airdrie, AB. Over the next 4 years I worked to build business from zero prescriptions up to 400 a week with a specialty in Compounded Medication. I also started training quite a few pharmacists to become certified to inject, and quite a few new Rexall pharmacy managers. In the Fall of 2012 I moved on to the management of the TransCanada Calgary store where in just 5 months we saw growth from 1100 prescriptions a week to 1400. After 9 months in Calgary, I was promoted to the role of Pharmacy Regional Director, where I oversaw 25 mostly Rural pharmacies in Central and Northern Alberta. This role involved mentorship of pharmacists and guidance towards our expanded scope of practice as well as growth of these business units. I was responsible for recruiting and staffing these stores with pharmacists as well as supporting these teams to achieve a high level of job satisfaction.
