About Patsy Contardo

I am the Ocean Affairs Lawyer in the Division of Environment, Climate Change and Oceans within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile. My work focuses on the intersection of international law and environmental policy, where I contribute to the protection of our ocean on both a global and domestic level. In this role, I have taken part in multiple multilateral forums, including the BBNJ, CBD, UNEA, UNOC, SPRFMO, and CPPS. With a law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a strong academic background in Marine Policy, Public Law, Environmental Law, and Gender Studies, I bring a comprehensive perspective to my work. My professional experience also includes advising the private sector on fisheries and aquaculture regulations as an associate at Philippi, Prietocarrizosa, Ferrero DU & Uría. Currently, I am finalizing my master's thesis in Law and Economics of Climate Change at FLACSO Argentina and am an associate researcher at the Center for Studies in Law and Climate Change at the Universidad de Valparaíso. My passion for ocean, climate, and environmental action is demonstrated through my extensive experience in youth leadership. As a volunteer with Uno.Cinco, I coordinated major youth climate events, including the Regional Conference of Youth against Climate Change (RCOY LA) in 2022 and the first Chilean Local Conference of Youth against Climate Change (LCOY) in 2021. This role took me to international forums like COP26 in Glasgow and the 2022 UN Ocean Conference in Portugal, where I advocated for youth-led climate solutions. In 2023, I was honored to be one of 77 young ocean leaders selected worldwide for the Our Ocean Youth Leadership Summit in Panama. My goal is to leverage my legal expertise and public policy experience to create lasting, positive change for our ocean.
