About Paul Barber

Senior bioveterinary scientist with 10+ years of working in veterinary diagnostics, specialising in haematology, and with a love for exotic, zoo and wildlife species pathology. My expertise includes strong technical skills, lab management, and teaching, supported by a strong academic foundation (BSc in Bioveterinary Science and an MSc in Wild Animal Biology) which drives my passion for advancing veterinary diagnostics, wild animal health, and conservation. Currently, as Senior Laboratory Technician at VPG Ringwood, I oversee the day-to-day lab operations in blood sciences, urinalysis, and cytology. In previous leadership roles, including Laboratory Manager at DWR and Head of Blood Sciences at Antech, I successfully led projects including laboratory relocations, and analyser validations as well as developing laboratory teams, managing workflows in multidisciplinary settings and integrated new LIMS systems to drive continuous improvement to operations. In addition to my work in diagnostics, I have had the opportunity to lecture on a range of topics in animal and veterinary sciences at degree level and provided hands-on training to junior scientists. I am also a member of the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) and stay informed with the latest developments in the biosciences. I’m always eager to connect with fellow professionals to exchange knowledge, explore collaborations, and contribute to research in veterinary pathology and wild animal health.
