About Paul Brunner

As a full stack developer that is passionate about education, I bring a wealth of hands-on experience in software development. I am currently seeking new opportunities to leverage this experience in solving tough and interesting problems. I have a strong preference for integrating more functional programming practices where possible and fewer object oriented ones, finding that FP makes code easier to reason about. I recently spent about a year working in a monolith project on an ecosystem of applications that included mobile apps - iOS and Android, a customer-facing web app, an internal management toolkit, and internal services all using React and ReactNative. This all deployed from a ReasonML code base which integrated with a PostgreSQL database through GraphQL, using Postgraphile for server-side and Apollo for client-side connections. Interest in coding/scripting dates back to high school, but in 2008 I began to focus on learning to code in C# to help improve things in my day-to-day work in server administration. I grew from automating simple tasks to designing and managing a robust monitoring system. In 2012 I began working in hosting security to harden hosting on Windows/IIS platforms by creating bespoke tooling and implementing effective strategies. In 2015 I started full-time development on a polyglot team, where I had to rapidly become comfortable working in many different languages including C#, JavaScript, Python, Java, PHP, and others. From 2018 to 2022 I focused on maintaining and uplifting older.net framework code using modern practices and.net core in C#. Through this journey, I have learned to embrace the challenges and opportunities that come with evolving technologies. I am keen to join an organization that values continuous learning, encourages collaboration, and pursues innovation.
