About Paul Foster

As Group Financial Controller for the British Horseracing Authority (‘BHA’), my job comprised a significant amount of varied tasks, linked to the overall operations of the business, and many usually associated with that of a Finance Director. I worked at the BHA for over 20 years having joined as a qualified accountant after 5 years working with KPMG where I managed various large clients including elements of the BBC and Telegraph Group Audit. I have acquired a wide range of skills over the years and can apply these to problems in different areas but fundamentally I have strong financial acumen and support the business in its decision making. Some areas of responsibility include:Team managementPreparation of group statutory accounts and stakeholder and press presentationsReview of monthly management accounts and Board reportingManagement of Company pension schemeManagement of BHA's central London property including sourcing and negotiating terms on new buildings and fit outNegotiating major supplier contractsPreparation of annual budget including agreement with Audit Committee and stakeholdersFinancial analysis of projects - both internal and wider industryI also have been a trustee of a small charity rolling out mental health support.I see myself as a good leader, who seeks to develop and encourage those I work with, allowing challenge and finding solutions that work for all parties. I see beyond the financials to wider business need and look to support the wider business in delivering. I am hardworking, honest and believe in fairness and equality.
