About Paul Griffin

After a first career as a City lawyer engaged in International deal-doing in the energy sector, I have moved to marry my interests and enthusiasms in my continuing work in the law and my writings as an author. My work as an academic, and in litigation and arbitration, have come together with my long-time participation in the world of historic cars; fuelling my book, The Past and the Spurious - The Case of Legitimacy in Historic Cars. I am an English Solicitor, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an Accredited International Mediator with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution. I have a chair as Honorary Professor at the University of Dundee where I teach and mentor international post-graduates in relation to the law and business of the energy sector. In my forty years of front-line deal-doing and dispute-resolving, I spent periods living in Europe and Asia and I was a partner in leading international law firms for some twenty-five years until retirement from the partnership at Allen & Overy in 2016. Over time, I have been recognised as the World’s Leading Energy Lawyer Award (Expert Guides: Best of the Best) and one of the Global Energy Elite (Petroleum Economist). I participate in the work of the legal institutions of the international energy business. My contributions to the sector's thought leadership include publications concerning the prevailing legal and commercial issues of the time and I am the editor of the leading text concerning the law and business of liquefied natural gas. I enjoy a full calendar of speaking, lecturing and training commitments at the primary, world-wide gatherings of the legal and energy industries.
