About Paul Julian

Associate Director in AECOM Transmission & Distribution team based in London. I lead technical teams to deliver successful projects throughout the different stages of design and construction. My roles and responsibilities include designer and design manager of substations, HV cables and battery energy storage systems (BESS) from the concept and optioneering stages, through to detailed design and construction.Experience with transformer and switchgear replacements (indoor and outdoor), transmission and sub-transmission cables, on both brownfield and greenfield sites. My keys skills include design management and coordination, primary design, substations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), earthing and HV cables. I also work on high voltage data centre substation designs across Europe. Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with honors from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, graduating in 2014. Before joining AECOM, I worked for ABB, a large electrical equipment manufacturer, gaining a broad range of experience with transformers, motors, generators, and high voltage equipment. I have spent six months working in a factory in Vietnam designing and testing power transformers as well as training in HV equipment in both Sweden & China. I am now putting his product knowledge and experience into practice designing substations and high voltage cables for projects around New Zealand and Oceania.
