About Paul Leavy
I am a dentist with experience working in general dental practice, hospital & public dental services as well as research, teaching, policy and regulation. I am a Clinical Lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) School of Dentistry. I am also completing my PhD in Population Health, Policy & Health Services Research as a SPHeRE Programme scholar at the Centre for Health Policy & Management - Trinity College Dublin (TCD). My research focuses on understanding why and how health system factors influence private general dentists’ participation in state-funded primary dental care as contractors. I am an elected Member of the Dental Council of Ireland and Chair of the audit and risk committee (ARC). In October 2023 I was appointed Chair of the Irish section of the Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA)- international dental honour organisation. I am also the current president of the Irish Society of Dentistry for Children - ISDC (2025-26).
