Background
About Paul Lilley
I'm very much a goal oriented person which allows me to remain focused even when surrounded by so many distractions. Outside of my day job I enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling, anything that involves the ocean, and anything with the film industry. Hawaii is by far the most beautiful place I've ever visited and eventually hope to live there. Ever since I tried surfing, I have been in love with it. Climate change and global warming is real and I try to do my part in reducing my footprint as much as possible. That's part of he reason why I love working in technology. During my studies at DeVry, I was taught something that has changed my life and my career forever. I learned to be a lazy programmer. A lazy programmer is the best kind of programmer. They prefer to do as little as possible. The result is code that is efficient, free of redundancies, easy to maintain, and can be easily expanded. One day while I was sitting at work building and formatting the same report I do every week I realized that I really didn't have to do this. So the following week I wrote out every step in the process as I completed it. Afterwards I was able to develop an automated process to do this for me making it something that I never had to touch again (except for maintaining or expanding the code). I ended up saving an hour each week from a simple macro that set up everything I needed to allow me to do my work. Now I apply that idea to everything I do. If I have to do it more than once, then I work to automate it. The goal is not to automate my way to the unemployment line rather it's to remove some of the smaller repetitive processes from my task list so I can focus on things that will help my company stand out above the rest. This has helped me considerably in my professional, creative, academic, and personal life. Be a lazy programmer.#lifegoals
