Background

About Paul Lundquist

I am currently at Arete, where I developed new active remote sensing instruments and technology using coherent and direct detection methods. Currently, my work is focused on a novel wide area lidar technology, DiAL sensing, very high resolution long-range lidar, underwater active imaging technologies, and wind-sensing applications. I also have an ongoing semiconductor laser development program. My management responsibilities at Arete also include intellectual property management and management of the optical engineering organization. Prior to taking a position at Arete, I worked for Applied Energetics (AE) for 10 years where I lead scientific investigations and innovative technical demonstrations in a start-up environment. I was responsible for planning, leading, and implementing the theoretical and experimental work that lead to the development of new laser guided energy (LGE) technology, technologies for disabling improvised explosive devices, and a fundamentally new type of laser amplifier. While at AE, I had written many winning proposals, managed resulting technical development contracts, and delivered hardware and research results. I was responsible for managing the company’s intellectual property portfolio. My technical experience there focused on high-power ultrashort pulse laser development and applications; atmospheric optical propagation; electrical discharge physics; numerical modeling and simulation of electromagnetic, optical, and thermal processes; and remote sensing applications.
