About Paul McLaughlin

A hard working, dedicated individual who has always put working towards a career in computer science before anything else, at the young age of 12 I figured out exactly what I wanted to do in life and I have spent my life from then chasing that dream to try and make it a reality for myself. 2:1 in Computer Games Technology at UWS - Paisley. In October 2018, i started a sandwich year in Leeds as an Industrial Placement Software Engineer and finished in August 2019 to go back to university. While on placement, the first project I was on was working with three mobile on their site, with not a lot of experience using javascript, HTML or React at the time, I was mostly doing front end development tasks fixing minor site issues and pushing the changes via github when those issues were fixed, I also gained some valuable experience in the daily standups which was something that only comes with industry experience. The second and final project I worked on was an email testing project, I worked with the Automation tester creating scripts using javascript and Selenium, these were updated on jira along with a set of manual tests. On the testing project we worked with different parts of the business across the country which was really interesting, giving me more experience of a different type of daily and weekly standup. I even got the chance to lead the testing while the test lead was on holiday, while this was difficult as someone who was just on a placement, i feel I handled it well. Outwith the projects I worked on, I was also writing my placement report as well as raising awareness for my learning disability - dyspraxia by writing and presenting a presentation and working with a voluntary part of the company to create a blog to share some experience with the disability.
