About Paul Monaghan

Originally an infectious disease scientist with considerable research experience in academia and the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, focusing on drug-discovery for hugely significant diseases, primarily neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), I moved away from a laboratory setting to manage public health programs focusing on the control of infectious diseases, applying my knowledge, passion and experience to a public health setting. I have extensive experience in managing large-scale public health programs in various countries (including Angola, Vietnam, Pakistan) entailing: working with government stakeholders on strategic policy advocacy objectives; managing multi-stakeholder partnerships and working with various stakeholders to co-develop effective, contextualized programs with a view towards long-term sustainability; designing and overseeing rigorous monitoring and evaluation (M&E) strategies to assess program performance and impact; and advising on and supporting operational research opportunities around on-going programs. While my career has primarily focused on public health, I am currently serving as a consultant to an NGO that works in the animal welfare sector, translating my experience of evidence-based programing at scale to improving the lives of fish in the informal aquaculture industry in India.
