About Paul Scurrell

As Snr VP of Product at Atomos, I work closely with the whole Atomos team and third party collaborators to help deliver ground-breaking video and wireless technology designed to transform production workflows and democratise content creation. Before taking on my role at Atomos, I spent seven years growing my own company, Timecode Systems. Prior to this, I worked as a freelance sound recordist and BBC sound supervisor. In fact, it’s these many years on-set, out on location, on the frontline of television, that gave me the initial idea for Timecode Systems back in 2012. This concept turned into a fast-growing start-up, and attracted high profile technical collaborations with companies including GoPro, ARRI, Sound Devices, Zoom and Adobe. Timecode Systems technology is now widely regarded globally as the wireless synchronisation standard for television and film. But as Timecode Systems grew, we got more ambitious and our vision turned into something much bigger than a timecode solution. Our aim was to apply wireless technology in new, more ambitious ways to create technology that made creating multicamera video content more accessible to a wider range of filmmakers, from broadcast teams to YouTubers. We couldn’t do this alone. For me, the key to Timecode Systems’ success is technical collaborations with other like-minded manufacturers. I believe organisations that work wisely and respectfully with others can achieve true innovation faster and more effectively than those working in isolation. Which leads me to December 2019, when one of our main partners, Atomos, acquired Timecode Systems. The two companies have the same ferocious appetite for creating disruptive technology and the same respect for collaboration. And I’m now excited by the opportunity to integrate our technologies and together create a new generation of solutions that will make multicamera filmmaking mainstream.
