About Paul Smyth

Paul is a chartered engineer with over twenty-five years of experience in the field of energy and carbon reduction. Paul currently is the Director of Programmes and Technical Services where he leads the Salix Finance delivery and technical engineering teams and supervises all technical aspects of the projects Salix Finance is implementing across public sector organisations. Paul joined Salix Finance in 2007 where he started out as a Client Relationship Manager, where he was instrumental in establishing the original team for the pilot programmes. He has helped lead the way in expanding the company through numerous rounds of Government funding and he is one of two senior managers reporting directly to the Chief Executive (CE). In his years at Salix, Paul has helped grow the organisation from a small team of seven to a fast growing organisation with over seventy employees. Paul has also worked alongside CE and his teams to secure the important £295m during the last Government Comprehensive Spending Review, which allowed Salix Finance to support the United Kingdom to meet its carbon targets. During 2020, Salix was also asked to deliver a £1bn of grant funding called the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, which was funded by The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Paul holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Heriot Watt University and an MBA from De Montfort University.
