Paul is a Community Manager, Event Manager, Content Developer, and Technical Marketer. He has spent almost twenty years in the tech sector. In these capacities, he has worked in the Public Sector, with Fortune 500 companies, ISVs, startups, academics, and students. He has a strong empathic sense that helps him understand the issues of the community. He has deep technical knowledge and can get to the heart of the challenges his communities face. He has well-developed analytic and organizational abilities - he knows what to focus on and how best to move my community forward. Paul has organized and managed events worldwide for Intel corporation. He has managed in all or part Intel Developer Forum (IDF), SuperComputing, SIGCSE, as well as internal events for Intel. Paul developed, managed (and lead) nationwide student hackathons that trained thousands of young developers. He organized and managed worldwide software training events. Paul has been a pioneer at Intel, helping drive adoption of technology and compute models through innovative uses of both social media and traditional engagements. He was an early adopter of hackathons at Intel and set best practices that are now being used company-wide. Prior to joining Intel, Paul was a Research Associate and Visiting Scholar at the Harry S Truman Institute for the Study of Peace, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard. He traveled and worked throughout the Middle East and North Africa. His work was supported by Grants from the Guggenheim Foundation as well as the Peretz Fund. His book, The Road to Martyrs’ Square, was published by Oxford University Press in 2005. When not working, Paul is an avid sea kayaker. He teaches and leads trips, and serves on the board of local organizations. He writes and maintains http://torsorotation.com, a widely read creative blog grounded in sea kayaking and the Pacific Northwest.
