When I joined the Home Depot I had to hit the ground running from day one. I was hired by Mike Parker as a Internet Order Puller/ Delivery Puller. I had to learn the whole store and though it seemed I might not make it at first, even with a lot of hard work, I learned how to adjust. Shortly after learning the store I found out they were taking ten positions off the floor to create a night freight team and I had a feeling if I didn't volunteer since I was the last one in I might be the first one out. So, I jumped at the chance and begged the HR manager to let me join the team until she laughed and said ok. After that I learned a lot more skills and was even better on where everything was. I then used it as a spring board to learn the store and its processes. Next I tried receiving and didn't do as well at first. I had several teachers but no true mentor for it. I was afraid to mess anything up because I knew it was too important of an area, even though I learned a lot, I went back to freight team at nights. Then they decided to make the freight team at nights part time in the morning and evening I realized I was being displaced. I decided right then the best way to secure a place on the floor was to literally go to work while going to work. I would work my four hours in the morning and then I would ask the manager if anybody called out that day or if they needed more hours somewhere. I told them I didn't want them to pay me the extra twenty hours without my working for it, to only pay me the hours I worked. Within a week I secured a position in electrical. To summarize my experiences I learned to integrate all the things I learned from other jobs, nothing is ever usless though somethings become more relevant depending on situation. I learned to pass on what I learned, teaching others is mastering ones self. I changed from one who enjoyed working alone to one who really enjoys helping others and surprise my self every day with what I know and to be thankful.
