About Paul Wombo

Paul Wombo, a 29-year-old South African chartered accountant, has roots in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Despite his father's wishes for him to become an engineer, Paul chose to study Accounting Sciences at the University of Pretoria with the Thuthuka Bursary Fund. He completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences/Certificate of Theory in Accounting at the University of Johannesburg, overcoming initial failure in 2017 to pass in 2018.Paul's passion for infrastructure led him to Momentum Group Limited, where he supported and later led significant infrastructure finance transactions totaling just over R5.2 billion senior debt investment from Momentum Group from 2022 to 2024. His work earned him the Momentum Group, Group Finance & Risk Management Annual Award and recognition as one of the youngest SAICA Top 35 under 35 finalists in 2023. Paul, a 2024 DearSA Business Award finalist and a Global Changemaker, represented South Africa at the 2024 Global Youth Summit in October 2024 and is also an ambassador of Global Changemakers.As chairperson of the Thuthuka Alumni Community Northern Regional Committee, Paul mobilizes alumni, advocates for the CA profession, and fundraises for Thuthuka and SAICA initiatives. Paul was a mentor, SAICA Reviewer for the exceptional Balance Sheet Management Asset Origination team and volunteer in the Learning & Development for Momentum Group CA Training Programme. Paul's dedication and love for infrastructure finance supported his aim to reduce energy costs in Africa, enabling economic growth and job creation. Paul hopes to lead Africa's growing sustainable development investment and to drive fundraising for Thuthuka Bursary in collaboration with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), leveraging his Global Changemaker status for grant funding from Global Changemakers after receiving a scholarship to the international organization's "Changemakers Online School".
