About Paula Baxter

I am a retired college professor with more than 30 years of teaching business computer classes, administration, and leadership experience. I have recently moved to Charleston. I have a doctorate degree in Educational Administration. My dissertation focused on successful strategies for teaching Native American students. I have developed and taught a number of face-to-face and online computer courses in both the university and community college settings. I have also developed and taught various non-credit computer workshops for faculty, administration, and communities. I served as the lead instructor for the Business Microcomputer Applications, Database, and Visual Basic courses at San Juan College. My responsibilities included developing course requirements, fact sheets, time lines, policies, Web enhancement, and day-to-day operation of these courses. I was also responsible for scheduling these courses as well as recruiting, hiring, supervising, and mentoring part-time faculty. I have had many opportunities to serve in leadership roles. I served on the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs’ (ACBSP) regional conference planning committee, on its facilitator team, articulation committee, relationships committee, and have chaired numerous meetings on technology issues. I have also served in leadership positions such as regional president, certified external evaluator, and mentor consultant. I have received a number of awards for my contributions to teaching. These include the 2008 SJC Tarpley Faculty Excellence Award, 2001 NISOD Excellence Award, the Region Six Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) National Teaching Excellence Award, the Lou Allison Faculty Excellence Award, and the 1998 President’s Mission Award. These awards are given to faculty members who demonstrate outstanding contributions to teaching, serving students, and contributing to the community.
