Passionate about health education. I have been conducting outreach to empower minorities to improve and/or maintain optimal health for 8 years. My primary focus as been diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. Lessons learned in the past 8 years are: 1. Competing priorities prevent people from taking ownership of his or her health 2. Even when healthy ways cooking classes or other activities are free-doesn't mean people will come (reactive instead of proactive) and 3. Even when they know better doesn't mean they'll do better( until they have to). So what's my next strategy? I'm going to start with the youth.
