About Pavan Kumar Mathamsetty

My passion for computer science began in 8th grade, when I started creating small C programs that sparked a lifelong fascination with technology's potential. I remember the excitement on my mom's face when I showed her those early coding projects - her pride and encouragement drove me to dig deeper. From there, I taught myself languages like Python and HTML/CSS, building personal websites and soaking up programming knowledge through books and limited internet access. Now at the University of South Florida pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, I maintain a high 3.82 GPA while engaging in impactful research and teaching roles. As a Research Assistant in the advanced robotics lab, I spearheaded development of innovative grasping algorithms to allow robots to autonomously pick up a wide array of objects with precision and care. This pioneering work meant long days of complex coding, but seeing the robots flawlessly lift objects as light as an egg or as heavy as a textbook made the effort worthwhile. In my role as a Teaching Assistant, I supported over 150 students by leading weekly study sessions and grading assignments for the intro programming course. Helping struggling students grasp concepts like arrays and recursion through my sessions was extremely fulfilling. I'll never forget the gratitude on one student's face when he got his first program to run thanks to my extra guidance. I'm fueled by tackling new challenges like developing SmartBrain, a facial recognition app using React, Node.js and Clarifai API. My team and I built an interview prep web app called GimmeJob in just 36 hours during a hackathon, integrating features like speech recognition and progress tracking. Known for quickly learning and mastering languages like Python and JavaScript to build robust full-stack solutions. But coding isn't just about the technical skills for me. Some of my most fulfilling moments come from seeing how my projects positively impact others. Like the pride on my mom's face years ago. Or the gratitude from students I've helped grasp concepts as a TA. I'm driven to create innovations that make people's lives better. I now seek a software engineering internship for 2024 to expand my skills and bring this same human-focused approach to real-world problems.
