Background

About Pearce Allingham

I am a biochemist with 4+ years experience in molecular diagnostic labs. Having completed a year as a Research Scientist within Randox, I had the great opportunity to build upon my studies with a wealth of meaningful, hands on experience in a GLP/GMP environment. My core responsibilities being new technology evaluation, immunoassay development, reagent formulation development, experimental design and microarray data analysis. Throughout my first year working in Queen's University Belfast (QUB), I gained my first insight into leading a team, and what it takes to structure a multifunctional group with a shared objective. I was grateful to gain some experience in training new staff in a Good Clinical Practice Environment while maintaining a working lab with high-throughput of clinical samples. In my second year in QUB, I was based in a wastewater epidemiology lab, wherein I became highly skilled in all stages of the PCR and subsequent genome sequencing workflow, from cDNA generation through to library preparation. I am glad to have been able to contribute to my first publication during my time in this lab, through my data curation and written contributions. This aspect of research I found brilliantly exciting. While working in the wastewater lab, I undertook a masters in Sports and Exercise Nutrition. This was for my own personal interest and is certainly one of my proudest achievements. I am obsessed with sports, and to bridge the gap between science and sport was a dream come true. I completed a really interesting human intervention study on the effects of Time Restricted Eating on markers of arterial health, this helped me realise that I want to be heavily involved in human based research in my future, I am excited to see what research opportunities await in Melbourne, and would also love the opportunity to volunteer with a local sports team, be it amateur or semi-pro, to enhance my experience in the world of sports nutrition.
