I have a background in Financial auditing with Ernst & Young and over 20 years of commercial banking experience with a Global Bank in both Portugal and the UK, where I was tasked with establishing the UK banking arm of the Portuguese Bank Banif, now Santander Totta. Key responsibilities included: • Responsibility for Credit and Lending to SME market: o Definition of vision, values, short and long term objectives, credit strategy and risk appetite for UK commercial banking operation o Product Development, implementation, pricing and launch to market ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements o Credit sanctioning and default monitoring and control • Leading a large team of circa 30 • Reporting directly to C-level and dealing with internal and external stakeholders including Regulators, IT providers, Strategic service providers, Trade Associations etc… I am currently in Portugal with Santander in the role of Regional Corporate Banking Director specialising in SME lending to businesses with turnovers up to 200 million Euros. Key skill sets: 1. Comprehensive SME lending / sanctioning experience. Sound understanding of credit risk, market risk, operational risk, and reputation risk. Solid knowledge of all commercial banking products. Strong leadership skills and Proven ability to mentor / provide guidance. Legacy of achieving success in an environment involving diverse stakeholders. Ability to successfully deliver through, or in collaboration with, third parties and strategic partners. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation of a bank, the interactions and interdependencies. I speak, read and write fluently (native language proficiency) both English and Portuguese. As a result of its structural and grammatical similarities with Portuguese, I consider myself at an ILR level 2 in French and Spanish.
