Background
About Pedro Soza
Pedro Soza is an architect and faculty member whose work focuses on computational design, cognitive sciences, and emerging technologies applied to architecture. He received his degree in Architecture from the University of Chile in 1997. He also holds a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology, supported by a Fulbright Scholarship, completed in 2018. Since the early he has been a visiting professor at several universities, where he began his research on design processes and computational design methods. In 2004, he was invited to join the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Chile. That same year, he began an active role in SIGraDi—the Ibero-American Society of Digital Graphics—as chair of the 10th SIGraDi Conference in Santiago in 2006, and later as society's president from 2007 to 2009. During this time, he represented SIGraDi internationally, participating in numerous global events, including the FEIDAD Award in Taiwan and the International Biennale of Architecture in Miami Beach. From 2013 to 2017, he served as Director of the School of Architecture, Design, and Geography at the University of Chile, leading academic innovation and institutional transformation. In 2020, he received the "Arturo Montagu" Award from SIGraDi in recognition of his career and contributions to the development of digital design in Latin America. After founding and directing the IFD_Lab at the University of Chile, his current research focuses on two interrelated areas: understanding the cognitive and neuroscientific foundations of architectural design, and applying emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things—to develop evidence-based strategies that improve the architectural design decision-making process.
