About Peggy van Eepoel

With over 20 years of experience in protective design and security, Peggy Van Eepoel is a Managing Principal and the Washington, D.C. Office Director at Thornton Tomasetti, a global leader in engineering and consulting services. She is also a member of the firm's Board of Directors and a leader in the firm's Protective Design & Security practice, influencing the firm's strategic direction and decisions on financial and business goals, hiring, and diversity and inclusion efforts. Peggy is a recognized expert in developing customized, innovative solutions for meeting security standards that elegantly balance risk and vulnerability with architectural excellence, functionality, constructability and cost. She has been involved in designing protection strategies for hundreds of projects, including facilities for the U.S. Department of State, General Services Administration, Department of Defense and Veterans Administration, Municipal Governments as well as hospitality, cultural, sports, higher education and private clients. She has also provided blast engineering for over 30 U.S. Embassy projects around the globe. She applies creativity, communication and problem solving to propose physical, technical and operational measures that provide safety to the occupants and the public. Peggy holds Professional Engineer (PE) licenses in NY, MD, DC, VA and MA and a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification, demonstrating her proficiency and commitment to her field of expertise. Peggy is a Fellow of the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), having served as Chair of the SEI Blast, Shock and Impact Committee and Co-Editor of the Structural Design for Physical Security Manual of Practice (https://ascelibrary.org/doi/book/10.1061/9780784415498). She is the current Chair of the ASCE 59 Standard "Blast Protection of Buildings"(https://ascelibrary.org/doi/book/10.1061/asce59) and sits on the American Society of Civil Engineers Industry Leaders Council.
